Two migrants died in a pickup truck on the Balkan route. As Austrian police announced on Tuesday, officers found two bodies in the back of a search delivery truck on the border with paradise.
In the car, 28 people were crammed into a very small space. The twenty-six surviving migrants, mostly from Syria, were airlifted. Police are looking for the driver who reported himself.
"This action shows one thing clearly the death of one or more people was deliberately accepted by the smugglers," said Austrian Interior Minister Karl Nahammer. The government in Vienna tightened its control over the eastern and southern national borders in July due to the arrival of migrants. Police say 250 smugglers have been arrested since the start of the year.
