Chelsea host Southampton at Stamford Bridge, Wednesday (27/10/2021) early morning WIB, in the fourth match of the English League Cup. The hosts immediately controlled the game after the match started.

Chelsea immediately created a good opportunity in that minute. Ross Barkley's corner was met by Saul Niguez's header, forcing Fraser Forster to drop to parry the ball.

Another threat from Chelsea through Kai Havertz in the 16th minute. He stabbed in the middle from the left and found an opening to shoot, but still darted to the right of goal.

Southampton tried to trouble Chelsea with high pressing. But that didn't stop the hosts from getting their chance.

Havertz hit again from the left and fired from a tight angle. Forster swiftly dispelled into goal.

Southampton again threatened in the 32nd minute. Kyle Walker-Peters strikes from the right and passes the ball to Stuart Armstrong. Armstrong snatched the pass at the first opportunity. His shot hit Mateo Kovacic and was saved by Kepa Arrizabalaga.

TARGET! Chelsea broke the deadlock in the 44th minute. Havertz headed Hakim Ziyech's corner in front of goal, to be stopped. The first half ended with Chelsea's advantage.

Just one minute into the second half, Southampton equalized. Walker-Peters escaped guard, stabbed into the right side of the box and fired low. Kepa missed his shot, slid past his feet, then was overthrown by Che Adams.

Chelsea responded from set pieces two minutes later. Reece James's execution was blocked by Forster into the net. Shortly after, it was Barkley's turn which was stopped by the Southampton goalkeeper.

Saul's kick in the 73rd minute welcomed Havertz's cross which shot thinly to the side of the goal. Two minutes later, another Saul effort from the edge of the penalty box was pushed over by Forster.

Southampton created a chance in the 78th minute. Shane Long escaped Alonso's guard and sent in a cross which Will Smallbone headed. Kepa swiftly blocked the ball.

Chelsea chased a goal at critical moments. Callum Hudson-Odoi went past two Southampton players on the right and tried to direct a shot on target, but ended up sideways.

Southampton got a good chance in the 93rd minute. Lyanco went unmarked and received a headed cross, but Kepa saved! From a corner kick, it was Salisu's turn to get a chance and was again broken by Kepa.

Malang Sarr's volley met Southampton's clearance in the 95th minute, which Forster denied. The second half ended 1-1, ensuring the winner was determined on penalties.

Both teams started the shootout positively. Southampton opened with a successful run from Adam Armstrong while Chelsea equalized through Marcos Alonso.

Theo Walcott's shot hit the post and missed. But Mason Mount's execution also failed because Forster was repelled!

The three executioners of both teams were equally successful, Shane Long from Southampton and Callum Hudson-Odoi from Chelsea. Southampton's fourth taker, Will Smallboone, failed to find the net after his shot bounced off.

The executions of Ben Chilwell and Reece James ensured Chelsea won 4-3, although Oriol Romeu had extended Southampton's breath. Chelsea also stepped into the quarter-finals of the English League Cup.
