BERLIN - A Moscow diplomat was found mysteriously dead outside the Russian Embassy in Berlin. German media suspected that the diplomat was a secret agent of Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB).
Der Spiegel, a magazine based in Germany, reported that the 35-year-old male diplomat fell from the top floor of the building and his body was found outside the Russian Embassy on October 19, 2021. The cause of the fall remains a mystery.
Although the incident took place last month, the local media only reported it on Friday (11/5/2021).
The Russian embassy in Germany released a brief statement in response to the report, saying; "Will not comment on this tragic event for ethical reasons."
The Der Spiegel report said the Russian Embassy did not approve of the autopsy being carried out in Germany. Therefore, his remains have been transported to Russia.
German authorities were unable to investigate the incident due to the late diplomatic status.
The German magazine added that German security services believe the dead diplomat was an undercover agent of Russia's domestic security agency, the Federal Security Service or FSB.
