Tigray, Ethiopia! A Group Has Allegedly Killed Over 120 Civilians!

Armed rebel groups in Tigray, Ethiopia, are thought to have killed 120 civilians in the region in two days.

Sewnet Wubalem, local administrator in Dabat and Chalachew Dagnew, regional spokesman for Gondar city, confirmed the killings took place in Dabat village on September 1 and 2, 2021.

“So far we have found 120 bodies. They were all innocent peasants, but we suspect the real number is greater. There are still many missing," Sewnet told Reuters by telephone.

Meanwhile, Chalachew said his party had visited the burial area in Dabat village. Among the dead were women, the elderly and children.

The Tigray Armed Group issued a statement denying the allegations of the murder and calling it a fabricated allegation by the Amhara regional government. They also confirmed that they were not involved in the killing of civilians.

If reports of the alleged killings are true, this would be the largest number of killings of civilians by armed groups since they seized the Amhara region. Tens of thousands of people have fled their homes in Amhara following an increasing number of armed militants there.
